Privacy policy

Eye on FSM is a community-driven environmental monitoring program operating in the Federated States of Micronesia. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect information submitted through this website and its reporting tools.

We are committed to handling your personal information responsibly and transparently, in accordance with applicable FSM privacy regulations.

We collect only the information needed to run the Eye on FSM reporting program:

• Information you choose to give when submitting an incident report or observation: name, email, phone number and organisation (all optional; reports may be anonymous)
• GPS coordinates, captured only when you press "Use my location"
• Photos and videos you choose to upload
• Details of the incident or observation: type, location, date, time and description
• Technical data collected automatically by our hosting provider: browser type, device type, approximate country and page-visit times

Anonymous reporting is fully supported. You can submit a complete report without any personal information. Anonymous reports receive the same weight and follow-up as identified reports.

Information submitted through Eye on FSM is used only for environmental monitoring and heritage protection:

• To process and act on incident reports and observations
• To follow up with people who have provided contact details and agreed to be contacted
• To share relevant reports with FSM state and national environmental agencies, the Division of Marine Resources and international partner organisations where appropriate
• To identify patterns of environmental harm or risk across FSM's marine areas
• To improve the monitoring program over time

We never use your information for marketing or advertising, and we never sell it.

Turn on "Stay anonymous" in the report form and no name, email, phone number or organisation is sent or stored. The content of anonymous reports (type, location, description, photos) is kept for environmental record-keeping.

Report content may be shared with the following bodies where appropriate and necessary:

• Chuuk State Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
• FSM Division of Marine Resources
• Relevant FSM state environmental authorities (Pohnpei, Yap, Kosrae)
• International environmental partner organisations where cross-border matters are involved
• Law enforcement agencies where a breach of FSM or international law is indicated

We do not sell, rent or share personal contact details with commercial third parties.

• Web3Forms processes form submissions and delivers them by email to Oil.Spills.Chuuk@gmail.com. See the Web3Forms privacy policy.
• Cloudflare hosts this website and may keep standard server logs (IP address, browser, page and time) for security and operations.
• Google provides the wreck map on the Wrecks pages, which may set Google cookies when viewed. If risks and news are published from a Google Sheet, your browser loads that data from Google. See Google's privacy policy.

Report content, including any photos or video, is kept for at least 7 years for environmental record-keeping and historical documentation.

Personal contact details are kept only as long as needed to act on the report, follow up with you, or as required by FSM law. They are not kept indefinitely once a matter is resolved.

You can ask to see, correct or delete personal data you have given us. Email Oil.Spills.Chuuk@gmail.com. We respond to all privacy requests within 30 days.

Anonymous reports can't be linked to an individual, so they can't be matched to access or deletion requests.

This website does not use advertising cookies, third-party analytics or behavioural profiling.

Your light or dark theme choice is remembered in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
